Having Anal Sex
As the anus is surrounded by nerve endings, anal sex can be stimulating and satisfying for both men and women. But like anything else in your sex life, you need to feel comfortable with it. The key to this is being open about it. Talking to your partner before, during and after having anal sex for the first time will help make it the mutually pleasurable experience it should be. But before you get started, check out our 10 top tips…

  1. Make sure you have everything you need in advance. As well as a willing partner, this means plenty of lubricant and condoms to protect against STDs.

  2. Don’t rush into it. Indulging in foreplay or even intercourse before trying anal sex for the first time can help you relax. Breathing deeply and contracting and loosening your anal muscles will also aid relaxation.

  3. Use as much lubricant as possible – you really can’t use too much. Then get used to how it feels with a finger. Push out gently with your anal muscles and ease the finger in.

  4. When your partner inserts his penis, it’s bound to feel strange and even uncomfortable. The need to move your bowels is also quite normal, as is a little blood the first time, but stop immediately if you start to bleed more heavily.

  5. Take it slowly. This could mean anything from 30 seconds to five minutes before his penis is fully inserted. Breathing deeply and talking him through what you’re feeling will help keep you both relaxed.

  6. Once you’re happy with the sensations of anal sex you can start to experiment. As with vaginal intercourse there are plenty of positions to choose from.

  7. ‘Spooning’ (side-by-side) is ideal for your first time as it gives you the most control.

  8. ‘Missionary’ (face-to-face) is basically the same position as in vaginal intercourse.

  9. ‘Rear entry’ enables the deepest penetration.

  10. Clitoral and vaginal stimulation during anal sex can also be a great turn-on, but don’t mix anal and vaginal intercourse in the same session as this could lead to infection.
